I lift weights. I started at 183 pounds 3 years ago, lost 20 pounds and had a trainer along the way for about a year. I learned how to use the machines, and someone else evaluated my strength and got me started on doing the weights properly and then gradually upping the amount.

I just turned 62, and am still lifting weights, with various frequency. Dancing I do is aerobic: 400 to 600 calories per evening of dance, generally at 65% to 75% of max heart rate. I sweat the whole time - I make sure to add bending my knees, some jumping, extra steps, etc. to get more exercise.

Although I am overweight, I feel like I do have more muscle and stamina than I did 3 years ago for sure.

I highly recommend that if you belong to a gym, take advantage of the trainers they have there. Often they will happily explain things to you so that you will get the best benefit from their facilities and will keep coming back year after year, staying strong and fit. Get your money's worth out of them!
