AVOIDING REBOUND, REVERSE DIETING, RESETTING YOUR FAT SETPOINT & STAYING LEAN YEAR ROUND
v.1.1

Planning for life post transformation, ideally lean year round if I can swing that AND optimize for health, play, well being and performance. I have zero expertise and a shit track record in this regard, so been hard on the research. Thought my findings might be of interest to some, so posting a couple links and notes for reference.

Found a deluge of advice on the subject, but when you drill down, the vast majority is unhelpful from a practical standpoint.

"You need to learn new eating habits and keep them for life."
"If you don't lose the fat slowly, you can never keep it off."
"You can never go back to eating as you did."
"99.8% of dieters gain all their weight back."
"Staying lean means accepting being hungry all the time."

I realize these statements contain some elements of truth, but decontextualized generalities are useless on the ground. Success requires a system. That quest led me to Reverse Dieting, the closest thing to a post-cut system for staying ripped that I have been able to find, and ultimately to this enlightening conversation thereon -

Initial Take-Aways
* Metabolic Damage is Definitively Bullshit
* Metabolic Downregulation Corrects in Days
* Reverse Dieting is Also, Consequently, Bullshit (Even Layne Agrees)
* "Fat Setpoint," WTF that might be, is Genetic
* Hunger Management is Key to Maintenance
* Build Off the Diet that Got You There
* Cardio May be Most Useful POST-CUT
* Draw "Line in Sand" to Trigger Mini-Cut

There's a TON more. To me, this is a treasure trove IFF these subjects are of interest. Wanted to share the finds, given the paucity of quality relevant content.

Good Afternoon:🙂 I wished I had saved the article, I have mentioned a couple times before. Floridian( lol when the newspaper had that section) did an article on diets. It was interesting most diets have been around since the caveman days, different names but same game. Phil Donahue(age 52 showing my age) lol said you want to make a million bucks, write a diet book. The weight watchers diet of 1989 was the most successful for me. I was at my highest at age 19, 183...got my weight down to 145, left weight watchers, got down to 135-140..Kept it off to age 37, then gradually put on weight.... Bottom line for me is around 1300 calories or less a little more with exercise and I will lose weight. But interesting reading and theories you have posted 🙂. Keep in mind I am no expert👱‍♀️🐈‍⬛🥤

Success requires a system ((PERIOD)) - A system requires consistency. I stayed so busy today that I didn't have time to shove things in my pie hole. I have the "How to Change your Body-Fat Setpoint ft. Lyle McDonald" queued up for my commute home. Thanks for the share brotha!!!

@maine Who's Phil Donahue?? jk Agreed wrt diet recycling. Lyle actually makes this point in one of the vids, citing a bunch of diets from the 50s that I had never heard of but which are very similar to current popular diets.

Thanks for posting, Jimmie. I'll read this stuff. My experiment with reverse dieting over the past few years mostly resulted in reverse weight loss, but I'm not doing the heavy lifting either.
