This is a fascinating interview about the addictive aspect of carbohydrates, hunger, mental and physical food drives. Snacking as an emotional event and a search for endorphins. How insulin drives us and how we can manage it. This is a low carb and intermittent fasting discussion with Dr.Cywes. Also discusses bariatric surgery and gastric balloon procedure. Focus on lifelong behavioral changes. Really eye-opening! If you suspect you have an addictive relationship with carbs, this is well worth watching.

Some of us really do have sugar/carb addiction that causes insatiable hunger. Check out drdavidludwig.com there is a great meal pattern under the Resources tab that I used successfully this spring to reduce my carb cravings and intense hunger. He has a book out called Always Hungry - which I was before I followed his Phase 1 eating plan. I am a bit more liberal with my diet now, but it took that two week protocol to help me break my sugar/carb addiction. Best wishes to you~

I'm familiar with Dr. Ludwig and his approach. He's very clear about how our health has been robbed by recent food culture. Mine has been! But I'm in recovery now.

There's no doubt about it. Snacking is definitely an emotional event. I tend to use it as my wind-down almost every night. I feel like the lady in the emergency necklace commercials: "I've fallen and I can't get up." Any suggestions?

It's complicated! For me........ eating plenty at dinner, then I 'treat' myself to a stevia-sweetened Zevia soda when I get peckish during the evening. It's sweet and filling. That's the simple version. The bigger picture is that I'm a carb addict and if I don't eat them, I don't get hungry and bingey. So, when I'm succeeding at weight loss, I'm eating practically no carbs and plenty of fatty meat. I know other people succeed on other WOE's, but this is what works for me.
