Studies have shown that some of these old notions simply aren't true. The body favors burning fat over muscle. Some of these "cons" are personal, like #3, 5, 6 and 7. And metabolic rate always lowers with weight loss as it takes more energy to move a heavier body than a a lighter one. I can see how 1200 caps might be too little for some, but for older, smaller folks it could be exactly the right amount needed to lose weight. There is no "one size fits all" when it comes to diet.
