I've no idea what you're talking about but support you all the same.

I did 23 and me too! Bella, It's the DNA genetic testing site. I did it with my parents, DD and her BF. (Not all in the same tube). It was very interesting

It’s a great thing to do, you can then analyse different markers besides discovering your origins. American people have more fun tho because you can technically come from literally everywhere!

I just did this, too, and was amazed at how long it took me to produce -- what -- 2 mi. of saliva without having eaten or drunk anything in the 30 minutes before!

I had to take a break lol. Tried first thing in the morning. Had a smoke then a bottle of water and cup of coffee. Then half an hour later tried again. Finally just drooled into it basically. Lol Sent off right before the mailman came. Anyone remember how long it took to get the results? I’m doing it for the medical side. Plus a great great grandma was supposedly Cherokee so I want to check that. I’m betting I have no Indian blood. Being on the roll back then was considered asking for handouts so she choose not to do it. We have no proof now. This will at least prove someone in my lineage either was or nobody was Indian.

6 weeks, it was in June last year. I used the raw data for other things too, it’s quite outstanding! Like my markers are so weird.. detected high risk regarding breast/ovary cancer. And actually my paternal gran passed away from that shit at 77. I also learnt I had a bit of Jewish blood! Impressive.

It took about 4 weeks. My great grandmothers, great grandmother (6 generations) was Native American. It showed up .2%. They did not list a tribe.

I sent my saliva to "23 and Me" and received a complete DNA analysis with genetic mapping within 10 days (and two weeks earlier than they predicted). I did it out of curiosity about my heritage and, also, to see what genetic markers I might have for illnesses. Amazingly enough, I am "at risk for developing diabetes between age 65 and 80" (try: dx'd at age 48!) and obesity (uh, no kiddin'!). I also found out that people who find that fresh cilantro tastes like soap have a genetic predisposition for that trait. (And here I thought it was just an "anti-preference" of mine!) Most importantly: I don't have genetic predispositions to Alzheimer's disease or various cancers.

"They say" that if you've reached age 65 experiencing a serious, life-threatening health event, you're probably in good shape. My acupuncturist told me that I have "the constitution of a horse." Asked what that meant exactly, she said, "You're gonna live into your 90s!" Well, if I'm going to live that long (and "23 and Me" seems to agree), I want to keep my limbs, eyesight, coronary, and circulatory systems in working order! So, all in all, this was very motivating!

Interesting Mira. I can't avoid recognizing that the three generations of women before me all died of cancer in their 70's so there's 'that' but I also recall they had many other health issues prior to that diagnosis. Sometimes I wonder if the difference (because I too seem to have the constitution of a horse .. or maybe I just don't give into nagging symptoms??) could be that I was never pregnant or gave birth. I've seen TV shows about how so many issues happen to a woman due to the hormones/pregnancy and maybe that's the 'thing' that hasn't been a contributing factor.

Great grandma had 3 births. Cancer in her 60’s and 80’s. Great grandma had 2 births. Cancer around 70’s. Grandma had two births. Cancer at 44. Mom had one birth: me. Cancer at 44. I had 4 pregnancies, 3 births. Cancer at 35. In order, breast, colon, ovarian, tnbc and tnbc. Tnbc hits earlier. I already know I have high risk which is why I have fake boobs and cervix and up was taken. I was a waking time bomb lol. Me, eh I didn’t care after losing dad mom and my stepdad. BUT my kids matter more than me so out/off everything went.

I find genetics surrounding illnesses interesting which is why I did this test. The heritage is just a plus. It’ll be interesting when I poke the family as to ‘our heritage’ and see who is the closest lol. Polish I know because every single member of the family going back 4 generations agrees on that one. German too I think. IF it shows health concerns then I’ll have my kids all tested and the hubs (for fun). What’s $1,000 right? Lol. I’ll have it saved by the time they are old enough to do it.

First great grandma listed also was diabetic and one of her daughters. My labs show 95-110 usually. 95 fasting, 110 after a coke. Propel makes it 95-100 but last time was 76!! Fasting except for propel to take my meds but they didn’t send it until the next day. There was a note on the chart saying it might not be accurate. If it’s that low eating a daily snickers then I’m golden lol.

The Native American DNA in the databases is almost all from South Americans, because northern tribes refuse to provide samples.

Really? Odd.

I understood the Elizabeth Warren predicament, because my family always said we had a great grandmother who was Native American, but 'passed' as Italian. But when my kids got the test there was not a trace. The story was BS, but of course I had always taken it with a grain of salt and never claimed anything on it. I was a little disappointed that I lost my supposed 'Cree' great grandmother! I think a lot of old American families have such myths, some true, some not.

erikahollister— you are correct. My dad’s family was from Nebraska and Oklahoma. My dad had high prominent cheekbones, skin that turned reddish when he was tan. Just from appearances, it was assumed that there was Indian blood there from somewhere— specifically Cherokee. When I had my DNA sequenced there was not a drop. People forget that DNA is new and people could only go by what was passed down as oral history..

My Father's mother was supposedly a Métis from Canada; but we have no records to prove it. As Sen. Warren pointed out, you have to be on the tribal roll to be considered Native American. They wouldn't go by DNA results anyway.

I doubt we have native blood. But I also doubt French blood. Just curious but mainly want to know the illness stuff. It was assumed for more than 3 decades that my biological father was Indian. Seems we look alike in facial features. I’m certain he’s not as he had no contact with mom during those years. He lived somewhere else then I believe. 🤷‍♀️ Plus mom and my bio dad told me who he was so I believe them. Doesn’t mean they wanted to tell the rest of the family lol. I have a racist family member so I’m hoping something really odd shows up so I can be sure to let him know 😈.
