Today was my one week point. I woke up better but in my opinion I am sleeping too much. Was in bed by 11:50 and barely could drag myself out at 10:30. The alarm went off at nine told hubby to set for 9:30. When that came about I told him to just turn it off. I was not ready. Retirement is good but this is not how I want to spend it. I will be honest, this has been happening before the holidays. Right after Thanksgiving is when it really started getting bad. The days that it was imperative to get up, I did, it was a hard thing to do but I knew I had to do it. Mindset?
Advice is needed and welcome as long as it is not mean.

Sounds like depression. Have you talked to your doctor about the oversleeping?

Many people have this problem when they first retire. When we worked we had a routine and it takes time to figure out a new one. You know how many hours of sleep your body needs and if you want to get up earlier you may try working at going to bed a little earlier, it takes time to adjust. Find something you enjoy to get up for even if it is just to enjoy that first cup of coffee and read the paper.

You didn’t mention your current WOE. you might evaluate that as well. Make sure you are getting sufficient calories and nutrients for your body to function optimally. How long have you been retired? Did you prepare for retirement by developing and nurturing interests outside of work such as hobbies, school, volunteer work, etc. you do need a plan unless you plan to just hang out in bed and watch the day fade away. And, have you had a medical checkup in the recent past. If this weariness persists without explanation an examination for physical health and mental health might be worth considering especially if you have things going on in your life that might lead to depression. Good luck to you.

I am the opposite. I've been retired 3 years and still wake up at 5:30 like I did when I taught. Retirement is nice but it's definitely a process that you have to experiment with in order to find what works for you. You mentioned that the sleeping in started before Dec..are you eating more carbs/sugar than b4? That can make you sluggish. Do you plan your day? That helps me stay motivated. Don't be discouraged. Take time to figure it out. Hope that helps alittle!💜💜

Force yourself to get up a little earlier every other day.. I find that 7 hours is my sweet spot.,

Do you go to bed at the same time every night? If you do and you aren't dealing with a lot of stressors on your system, your body will eventually tell you how much sleep you need. That's also what time you wake up, not what time you get up. That's a whole different ballgame.
