I don't feel a bit bad about being up .2 lbs because I was one lb. more 4 days ago and had a splurge day in between that I had to lose the effects of. I'm even surprised I am doing so well since of course one pound is about 3600 calories and my daily allowance is only 1200 at my size. I have to keep my calories very low to lose anything. Very little room for fun. But I'll tell you it is very fun to wear a size 4. Maybe I'll never get back there since my body has changed so much, losing 3 ¼ inches in height and my midsection finally spreading. I'm not willing to crash diet and need to keep up my protein and vegetables. That's tough on 800 to 1,000 calories. I can't exercise much with my bad back, so I can't add extra calorie allotments for that. But I'm finally back on the straight and narrow for now, am grateful, and pray I don't fall off the wagon. When I do, I don't know where to find the will to get back on since I am so addicted to high carbs and sugar.

I'm organizing my upper kitchen cabinet above the oven with storage containers, plastic bags, etc. It's hard to know if I want to let go of some of the storage containers. The better ones are expensive Tupperware and Vacuum Seal and the cheap ones I take things to my sick friend. I do have too many but it's not in my nature to minimize. I got out the “choppers” like from the fair for an onion. I don't think they ever worked very well. One is even electric. I will try them out again and try to eliminate something. My daughter is “strongly” encouraging me to pare down what I don't use. I don't know how often I have to use something for her to stop criticizing me. She says she is getting rid of things in her closets that she loves (gorgeous gifts) but never uses. She is more like my husband. Do you have Tupperware-type things you don't use? I joked that maybe I should burn down my house when I am ready to die so she wouldn't have to deal with my stuff (which she doesn't want to do). I feel guilty just having my stuff. I get nervous every time she comes to visit from Arizona just because I feel disapproved of even when she doesn't criticize. When she does criticize I get hurt more than I should. I am too sensitive, it is one of my worst faults. She comes now to visit my husband because he was diagnosed with cancer but when she lived only 15 miles away or so she went for 17 years never coming to our house.

Have you thought about trying to get rid of ONE thing a day? It doesn't seem like a lot - but in a year, you will have 365 less things you don't need.

Yes, Debbie, I did that all last year, and actually the year before too, and am still doing it (averaged). In fact, I gave my daughter about 8 tops that I really liked for myself, and this Christmas I gave her the mink jacket my SIL handed down to me. There will come a point that I could give things that I don't "need" but that I still want. In fact, I will confess to you that it was hard to give the 8 tops to her but I was trying to be generous. Need is a very complicated thing. I don't suppose I really "need" any one piece of my furniture or pieces of clothing. In America, most of us live in abundance compared to much of the world. I'm grateful!

Do not fix it if it is not broken ... you may be more like the rest of us than you like to believe.

I have lots of Tupperware type containers but I cook lots and gift lots and I actually use them.. I have a friend who does not cook and she is bewildered all the time by the number of storage containers I have. I am somewhat of a mini prepped and buy a lot of things in bulk so containers needed for all that stuff as well. My daughter knows that when I die she needs to rent a big dumpster and toss everything. Hehehehe.

Hugs. Do what is right for you. It's hard to shrug off the disapproval but this is your life. (It's taken me over half my life to develop a thicker skin.) Do what works for me you. If she doesn't want to deal with your belongings when you are gone she can hire someone to do it.

You know Snowwhite, you don't have to accept the guilt someone tries to place on you. If you like to keep things and your daughter (or anyone else) thinks you should get rid of them, that's their problem not yours. Do you go to other people's houses and tell them how they should live? You have a right to enjoy your clothes and other belongings without feeling guilty or give away things you love. And, you are worthy of, and deserve, the respect of your family members. And, even if you are not getting that from them, you certainly deserve self-respect. Take care and hold your head high, you are an amazing woman.
