I am debating how to handle my 24 hour fasts. Dr Jason Fung said that technically a fast does not include bone broth but it's ok to drink it if it gets you through.

What do you Buddies think?

I have not been able to get through 24 hours without the broth yet. I can keep trying.

I decided to do the 24 hour fast on Mon - Wed - Fri. Seems like the more you fast the less you feel like eating anything!

I would like to get down to 289 by Tuesday, Nov 8 because that's my physical but I don't know if I will make it.

Have a great day everyone!

Do what works for you! You are losing well!

I agree with HCB--do what works. You're losing slowly but steadily which is great for the long haul. I've never been able to do a full 24 hrs. either but I am able to do a sort of brunch to brunch thing which means only eating within a 2-4 hrs. window. Right now I'm going for the 2 hr. which works for me, but won't work for everybody. Just do what you can do because it's working.

I do a bone broth fast exclusively. Three days, 4 bone broths, a day, and I can drop 5. Good Luck!! I am breaking my plateau with a three days bone broth fast. This is my Day 1. Wishing you Great Health, Happiness, and Success. Rose

First I hope your physical goes well. I would also like to ask for some thoughts on fasting. I see it discussed here often and I should go read more. If you don't eat for some period (whether that is a daily 8/16 or 24hrs for x days a week), I would think you would want to just BINGE. Does that happen? If it does, how do you prevent eating too much and losing the benefits? When you start eating after fasting, can you eat anything you want - i.e. half gallon of ice cream :)? Just thought I would get some general info from y'all.

Thanks HCB, Sue, Rose, and Matt. @Matt - You really don't want to binge b/c your hunger is pretty shut down after fasting. I just follow my non-fasting diet and b/c I eat LCHF I absolutely don't eat all that junk like ice cream. If anything, I don't eat enough after a fast. And I was a binge eater for over 30 years - just recently got a grip on that problem in August. Dr. Jason Fung (has Youtube videos) says that the data shows that many eat more on non-fasting days but the average is still less than if you ate regular on both days. The reason I fast is not to lose weight quickly, it's for the other benefits - mainly to reduce my insulin resistance. I am TYPE II diabetic and since I started a fasting protocol I don't need to take insulin. I still take my regular pills but hopefully after doing this fasting for several months I will be able to get rid of that too.

Matt, I agree with NY_Shelly. I suggest you go on YouTube and watch some of Dr. Fung's videos. You can also go to his Intensive Dietary Management webpage and you'll find a lectures tab at the top of the home page. You'll learn a lot about HFLC dieting and about intermittent fasting. There are more benefits than just losing weight.

You've inspired me to get me some grass fed beef bones for a broth. Thanks buddies!

Ny Shelly, You are doing so well with the fast. I'm beginning to believe it is almost better to have a bit of food in your stomach, but a bit of broth, you wouldn't think that would affect you that much. Remember, it is all about the long term. Think about avoiding food over time. You don't necessarily have to punish yourself, but be mindful that it is long term, not short term.
