Verdict is in this a.m!!! Calipers report I have dropped from 22.8 to 20.8 body fat, and lost another 2.5 inches around my hips and landed at 37. Waist still remains 32. Weigh in comes tomorrow and I'll be doing another on Monday morn.

I've worked really hard for these. 20 months worth of workouts. They're not perfect, but these are the muscles that help lift me up when my legs are having a tough time from the MS. These are the arms that collaborate with my cane, and worked with the walker when I was using it. These are the arms that may one day help to lift me out of wheelchair or help make life a little less strenuous for a future care giver. These muscles provide supplemental support for a condition that has no cure.

I did my last modified push up and hit the 60 rep mark, and now it's time to work into the next level and do un modified push ups. For me, this really is about function. Enjoying the form is a luxury.

I confess, I do my best to cultivate as much self love and inspiration as I can because my fear of the unknown requires a love that can equal it. It feels good to look at this picture and see how far the love in this heart has taken me.

I have a reminder on my phone that set to go off every day, it reads as follows, "Emboldened in love - we expand our strength, keep going, and keep the weight off..."

Have a blessed day everyone <3

Heck yeah! Super inspiring!! Someone here posted a study -- i think it was either tahoebrun or chesgreen, sorry! Anyway, it was that a much better than bmi as an indicator of health is waist to height ratio. Basically your waist should be half your height or smaller. So depending on your height, that waistline measurement is a key one.

Thank you, Jengetfit - I did not know that. I am 5'2 and a quarter so basically the ideal is 26 inches. It will be interesting to see where this body decides to pull fat from as I continue to workout. lol. It's completely in charge of that one.

Lol, i am 5'2" (62"), so by my reckoning i am keeping my eyes on the prize of 31" or less. Your math may vary. 😉 and yeah we don't get a vote in where it comes off from, wherever my body wants to shed the fat, i will take it!

You go ! Bodyfat % is the best indicator of heath and fitness. Who does you calipers? I am inaccurate when I do it to myself so I have my trainer do it the same way every time!

Jengetfit - LOL, oh my goodness - you're totally right. Geez, well I guess we know I'm not good at math! Yes, 31" is right on target and 62" is our height. I don't even want to know what I would look like with a 26" waist at 5'2 LOLOL. Thank you. HCB - I do the calipers on myself. It's been fairly easy to get the reading in the same place. It might be different had I let go of more than 66 lbs. and had a lot of excess skin to deal with. Believe you me, I still have excess skin, but it's not enough to make it problematic. As for the accuracy, I take from Venuto's book on using calipers - regardless of whether it's right on the money, I had a starting point (39%), so at the very least I have come down 18 percentage points from where I started and I'm totally good with that. At the end of the day, this muscle is considered functional - In short, it really helps me a lot better than the walker and even the cane sometimes.

I love Venuto's books! Especially "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" Keep up the great work!

Also, i just really appreciate the message in you post about self-love and needing it to be strong enough to match your fear of the unknown. That is some powerful stuff right there! Ty for sharing your thinking -- gave me a real lightbulb moment.

You look amazingly strong!! All you can do is the stuff within your control and you are so doing that. Since MS is a given, you are giving yourself a big head start with a strong body to work with. When my brother became a quadriplegic when he was 18 he was told thank goodness he was so physically fit at the time of the accident as that made him better able to adapt to his paralysis. I imagine your fitness will be a huge help for the road ahead.

Thank you, so much for your support Jen, Carol, and HCB - I think one of the things I rebelled against the most when I was first diagnosed was this immediate assumption I was a tragedy. As if all of the other accomplishments like college degrees, world travel, and kick a$$ jobs that taught me so much about what I was capable of didn't matter anymore. I am determined that this will NOT BE THE CASE! I tell my mom often, even if I only have my 2 thumbs left to move, they're going to be the strongest 2 thumbs you ever saw! Besides, look at the late Stephen Hawking - when I think back to that man all I remember was his phenomenal genius and what amazing insight he gave to the world about how the universe works. He was so much more than just a man in a wheel chair and what he left behind was invaluable. And, yes Carol you are absolutely correct - muscle mass is one of the first things to become compromised for for folks with MS when mobility is compromised. MS society tasks us to develop our endurance muscles so they can withstand the spams and spasticity that can accompany the condition. So, I very much relate your brother :-)
