Knee worst it’s been in months! Half pain pill and Voltaren didn’t touch the pain. I’ve walked half of my 1-1/2 miles but it’s been hard. Do you think I should push it when it hurts so badly? If I DON’T walk, would you say I’ve broken my streak? Are there any legitimate reasons for not walking?

If you have bone on bone knee pain or swelling, you might try rest for a couple of days. Also after the rest, you can try doing some simple body weight exercises that will strengthen your quads, hamstrings and glutes. Just start slowly so that you don’t injure yourself. A stationary recumbent bike will also exercise your legs without a lot of force on your knee. I feel for you.

Sorry to hear Debbie, I have a bad knee from multiple injuries to it over the years, and last winter messed up my foot and ankle pretty badly and was on crutches for a couple months so i understand, Its depressing when you feel you're losing ground, but just have to look at it as taking care of yourself in a different way. I think you most certainly deserve a rest and your knees will thank you. You'll be back to it in no time.

Yes, there are legitimate reasons for not walking. If you push yourself to the point of injury, you'll sideline yourself longer than if you take care of yourself. karen offers good advice -- maybe you can find an alternative exercise. Is there a municipal pool where you could do water walking?

Debbie, it is my opinion that you should visit an orthopedist. There is relief from knee pain so that you can regain your quality of life. Long term use of OTC pain relievers can affect your liver, kidneys and stomach. I promise this is the last time I will encourage you to see a doctor. Don’t want to be a nag. 😂

I have to agree with everyone although I usually work through colds and pain for short term. But yours seems to be consistent now. I also agree that you really need to see an orthopedist. They have gotten very good with knee pain. Longterm pain medicine can have harmful effects on you. I wish you healing. ❤️🙏

IMHO, if it hurts don't do it or at least modify it...

What a doctor talked about your knee pain? I think you need a physical therapy as well as a pain control.

I went to the orthopedist in late April. Basically, he told me that my problem was that I'm fat. Well, since then, I've lost 36 pounds, and the knee pain is still there. Granted, it's not an every day thing like it was back then, but it is still something that affects my life every day.

You might try going back and letting him or her know that you took their advice and reduced your weight, but are not getting much relief. Doctors go for the low-hanging fruit -- the most likely cause -- first. I know you may still have a ways to go on weight, but I would think 36 pounds would improve things at least a little. You may need additional intervention. You might even tell them the pain is interfering with your weight loss efforts, which is what it sounds like. Weight loss is often the first-line treatment for joint pain, but you might need to move onto the next step

Number 1 - find a new doctor. Being overweight probably makes things worse, but the kind of pain you're suffering indicates other problems, very likely, severe arthritis. When I walk too much one day, I can barely walk for a couple of days. You're not helping things by pushing through the pain.
