There were times in my life I wanted the scale to go as low as possible because it was drilled into my brain from an early age that being thin is healthy/virtuous/desireable… I think I’m finally getting over that at almost 40 years old. I’ve been a weak and fat 135, I’ve been a weak and thin 110, and nothing feels or looks better to me than being relatively strong and lean at 135. I hated how I looked when I was carrying more fat and no muscle, I hated how I looked just as much when I was very thin (“weird and lumpy” is how I would describe it). What was missing in both of those cases? Muscle! How I think about health and how I see myself is still evolving. It’s cool how the body responds to different inputs.

Love this! Lifting weights and gaining muscle and losing fat was the thing that tipped the scale for me as far as being able to look great. I am 60 and post menopause and went from a size 16 to a size 4. I just read a great article called Protein first and all the other nutrients fall in around it and I think that is true. I focus on Protein first and then get my carbs and fats in. Each person is different and I wieh I would have figure it out at 40! Good for you!

Love this! I'm with Redporch. I am trying to focus on protein 1st. I am back to working out at least 5 days a week with the focus on weightlifting.

Yeah let's all get big muscles!! 💪 🤣 @redporchlady and @diana1234 - For me protein was not too hard but I tended toward fattier foods (because they're more filling/less effort), the big change for me is trying to get in a lot more carbs now. Carbs and sleep -> more energy -> way better lifting sessions

This is very true. I would like to add I was very unhealthy at 183, didn’t workout. Now at 187-190 I’m still feeling amazing, eating pretty much the same way. The difference is the amount of muscle tissues. Can we say muscles = health?

@supergainz yes I think that’s true, (except maybe steroid abusers but there’s always exceptions)

Lol yes I should clarify. Natural muscles = health. I seen my coworkers on steroids saying “ health is wealth, you only have one body so take care of it” I’m starting to think he doesn’t think steroid+tren isn’t doing his body harm…

Totally agree. We share that in common. We are mesomorphs.

yes, totally agree. I look way better with more muscle and not focusing on the scale. I originally had a goal of 125-130, but I actually think 135ish is where I will be content and settle at because I definitely have more muscle this time around. Or who knows, maybe I'll continue to lean out and put back on a couple pounds in muscle. 🤷
