MAJOR stress in my life! Prayers coveted and appreciated! My daughter, who lives in our basement with my grandchildren since July, has been blatantly breaking the rules that she signed a written agreement to abide by before she moved in. We had a meeting with her today about it, and she blew up. She tore the paper, wadded it up and threw it at my husband. She said she was NOT going to abide by them (most expressly having her boyfriend spending the night here, which she has been sneaking him in to do for several weeks). Other rules she refuses to follow: (1) not yelling, screaming, cursing and having physical violence (she tried to choke out my granddaughter last night and they both ended up in a fist fight - but each says the other was the aggressor and they were just defending themselves); (2) going to Family Therapy (telehealth) with us twice a month, which is paid for by her insurance; and (3) keeping the basement clean. She said we were just trying to ruin her life, that it was OUR fault that she and her boyfriend broke up (which happened yesterday) and that she was moving out and we would never see her or the kids again, which is the manipulation she has used with us since my granddaughter was born to get what she demands. We told her the kids could stay, but she told us to go to hell. So we told her she doesn’t have to move out for 30 days, because she was going to move out tonight.

I sent a prayer. And a hug for you. To me it sounds like she needs to move out and if this sort of thing keeps happening then Children and Family Services needs to step in and see that the children are taking care of.

She's gotta go... There's no way. Complete disregard for your and others in the home, no respect for herself, and the final straw: VIOLENCE... You've gotta make an immediate change before something really bad happens

Sorry to read this, but it is YOUR house. Pack all her things up, put them outside NOW and change your locks if you have to. Then ring up whatever organisation you have that deals with people in your daughter's position ie homeless and with children and try to get their help with your daughter. Do not let her back into YOUR house. I know that this is hard for you to go through but you have to be tough with her, you don't need all this stress.

Sounds like drugs. I agree with pack her up and lock her out. Call CPS, tell them the situation, and that you suspect a drug problem. COS will probably give them to you as guardian until and unless she goes to rehab, gets sober, and gets herself a stable place to live. COS will especially be interested in the violence. That's a huge red flag. Anything else just enables her bad behavior, including believing any promises since she already broke all her agreements. I'm so sorry you are going through this. She is lucky she has you for the children.

I’m praying for you and your family. I pray you will find the direct support you need today from the domestic violence and child abuse resources in your city. I know you love your grandchildren and their safety from your daughter’s physical and emotional abuse is number one priority. Resources locally and nationally are available today for your daughter and grandchildren to get the help they need. ❤️🙏🏼

Some grown children can be challenging. They think we parents owe them everything and they owe us nothing. No one can hurt a parent like their offspring. Protect yourself and set your limits...

Oh Debbie, I am so sorry you are dealing with this. Why should her behavior change when she has a free place to stay and built in babysitters when she has something else to do. You are enabling her bad behavior. This is hard to hear, but from one mother to another I must encourage you to HELP her by not accepting her behavior. Call family services, those kids deserve better! Be proactive, not reactive. Hugs to you! Be strong!

I'm so sorry to hear of the stress and dysfunction your daughter is bringing to your home. Be sure to keep the signed agreement she destroyed so you have evidence of the broken promises... it may not seem important now but it is a reminder of what and how you were trying to help her and her children. A hard lesson to learn is that unreasonable people cannot be reasoned with and it can easily develop into engagements that can't be rationalized. My prayers are with you and all of your family.
