Okay guys, it was bound to happen but I can legitimately say now...I know what happens if you screw up! I ate too fast and then went to the doctor...it's about an hour ride each way and 9/10ths of there I had to pull over and throw up. I was in a severe amount of pain the whole ride...and then threw up in some poor persons driveway. Well, the street in front of their driveway but still...I solemnly swear I will NOT make that mistake again. Slow and steady guys, slow and steady. I NEVER WANT TO DO THAT AGAIN. It was agony! No more gulping, no more rushing, no more stupid thoughts like "I'll just eat this last bit real quick!"...I FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT! I knew better, I just didn't understand how bad it could get. Now I know! Ask me about it sometime if you need to hear all the gory details but otherwise this is as TMI as it gets from me lol. Signing out from my new low, low weight of 272.6?!?!?! WHAT?!?!?!? Yep...almost at 272!

...toldja... Hint: the sooner you can throw up after that pain comes on, the better! It won't go away until you do! It will NEVER resolve itself. When you start to feel that pain, spit out whatever is in your mouth - honestly, don't even finish chewing and definitely don't swallow! Sometimes, if you stop eating the second you notice it -- LIKE NOW -- you can avoid it going there. Now you have "dumping syndrome" to look forward to. BWAHAHAHAHA! The first time I had THAT was from eating too much watermelon - honestly! The first time with the vomiting was on my birthday at Texas Roadhouse, eating one of their delicious rolls too fast! Eat slowly, chew THOROUGHLY. If you're like me, the only steak you'll ever be able to eat again is Filet Mignon - it is the only thing tender enough to "chew down" small enough to not get stuck. DO NOT go back to drinking soda! If you need any help or have any questions, feel free to Private Message me with the gory details -- I've probably made all the mistakes there are to make, which qualifies me as somewhat of an expert on the subject!

The heart is for the weight...not the throw up. It's a journey and we're all learning.

Oh noo, I am sorry, I hope you are feeling better now, remember we are not perfect, you will learn what you can do and what not to. And I will say, if you want really bad a coke why not to drink diet sodas, if you have a medical condition that would be a whole different story.

Yeah it wasn't too scary @Bella...it was just upsetting because I felt so stupid! I know better! Everyone told me that it could happen if I wasn't careful...and I WASN'T CAREFUL!" lol I will do better...that was quite possibly one the most humiliating things that I have ever done to myself...and I've done some really humiliating things lol (also TMI for this site HA).

From what I've heard, every WLS veteran needs to test their tolerance for amounts and kinds of food and drink. I guess it's just a rite of passage!

Aw Katie, that's terrible to go through! I just over ate and was just thinking I sure hope I don't get sick. Please don't get down on yourself, although I do know how easy it is to do. You're very brave to share your ordeal. Hope you are feeling better. ❤

Hope you are feeling better. Things happen. Everyday is something different. Hope today was a lot better.

We don’t have to get down on you— you did it for yourself. Now you know for a fact that they gave you certain instructions for a reason. A lesson well learned and won’t be forgotten anytime soon, I hope.

I'm curious because I have no experience with this surgery. Do you go through any sort of counseling or eating behavior modification therapy before or after?

@Bella it depends on your insurance company and the hospital requirements but for me there was some fairly rigorous demands. There was a minimum amount of weight to lose, time to wait regardless of loss, there were health requirements and psychological requirements as well. We had to attend classes and meet with numerous doctors in different departments all to prove that we were ready. Although some slip through the cracks I'm sure, they try very hard to only do the surgery on people who will be successful. I'm now in therapy as well, which wasn't mandated but I know they sometimes require that as well. I just knew that I'd be better off if I did it.

Thanks Katie. I hope you understand that was not a criticizing question. I watched a few segments of that show where people are having this surgery and it's never been mentioned. IMO and in my own personal situation I know my weight and obesity is more the result of eating disorder behavior than just over eating at a meal. Which is why I've never felt this would be an option for me. I've also wondered... And please forgive me if this is a stupid question... But how is it the docs demand the candidate lose weight to have the surgery? Isn't this because losing weight without surgery hasn't worked?

And please tell me to mind my own business if you feel I'm overstepping. I just know we've followed each other a while and I am interested.

@Bella, no! This is totally fine! What they are doing is giving you a specific, temporary diet to...show your resolve basically. It's a actually a fairly small amount but...you need to show that you're serious, that you can "live the diet" that you will be forced to eat at first because of the surgery, and that you understand the "limitations" of what your doing. So when I went in for my first few visits, they verified where I was at in terms of what I could do physically and my idea of how this would work. They gave me information about the different surgeries available and what might make one more specific to me and my illnesses/limitations...lots of info! Then I met with an NP to discuss what my initial leanings were and how much I would need to lose. Now other hospitals may do it differently so keep that in mind. On that we visit she evaluated me and said that I would need to lose 30 pounds to be "ready" for the surgery. They then set me up for various appointments with regards to my specific illnesses and then set up a psychiatric appointment. He did evaluate me for eating disorders but also said that where I was mentally meant that he thought that I would be a good candidate. He did recommend that I see someone as he wasn't sure that I didn't have an eating disorder but again because I was willing to do the work, he thought that I would be okay. Turned out I didn't have a disorder (eating lol) but that I did have c-ptsd...which did not change their minds...they still felt that I was ready. So I would say that yes they do demand that you lose weight but...once I hit that weight if I had gained some back before the surgery took place...it wouldn't have changed my surgery date...at that point only an actual health risk would have stopped it. You know going in that you have to do this and more to get the surgery...if you are in the right frame of mind...you can get there! I would say if you are at all interested...even after I barfed in that poor guys driveway, that you should check it out. See what requirements they have...it doesn't cost anything to look, right??

Thank you Katie. I've been interested at times but for me I know when I'm in the right frame mind I don't need it because I can lose weight. But I also know when I'm not in the right frame nothing short of wiring my jaw and sewing my lips together would work. I've bounced between both ends of disordered eating ( starving to purging ). I HAVE thought and wondered about getting the surgery when I have reached goal weight because that's when I've struggled and lost. I know a couple of people who've had this surgery and they didn't inspire me because somehow they are still overweight. I don't feel I know them well enough to ask. That guy I dated four years ago had the surgery and he was still very overweight. He tried to encourage me to have it but then I'd watch him drink milkshakes and eat waffles drowning in butter and syrup and I couldn't understand where the surgery was supposed to help because this was almost daily not just now and then.
