Day 2 on no Diet Coke was brutal. LOL UGH! My hunger was up and I kept wanting to break my fast. I hung in there though! My insulin needs are almost gone. I took some last night but I took too much and my bs went low (not dangerously low - 61) at 1 AM. Luckily it wakes me up and I drank some milk to boost it (as recommended by Dr. Rob Cywes on YouTube).
Dr. Rob Cywes is great to watch on YouTube. He calls himself the "carb addiction doc" and his videos are very short and to the point.
So technically my fast was broken at about 33 hours with the milk but I will not eat until 11 still.
OK I'm going to check you what you fine people are up to today! Have a great day and never give up on yourself. Keep getting up! ~Shelly

Good job on breaking the habit. Is it caffeine withdrawals you are suffering from? They are hard

Wow awesome Shelly 33 hour fast very nice. Nice focus & determination to make your goals. A true inspiration! 🎉👍😊 My longest fast was like 23 only cuz we weren’t home in time to eat 😁 . Intermittent fasting is a lifestyle that really works combined with healthy eating. We started in 2019 we’re on week 73 actually. We do 18/6 - 5 days a week & weekends 16/8. When we don’t follow that and eat after 6pm we always gain it’s crazy. I grew up on Tab soda my mom never brought sugar drinks in the house. If I had them it wasn’t my house 🤣 I love Diet Coke !!! Especially Diet Coke with lemon! I gave up soda & all carbonated drinks in 2017. It’s hard but definitely better for your health. H2O is my bestie these days 😁 I will say since we moved back up north I may treat myself to 1 of my favorite sodas- Pennsylvania Dutch Diet Birch Beer!! Have a great week Shelly keep up the great path your on!’n your doing awesome!! 🎉👏 👍😊🌈🍀

The diet soda industry has persisted in using aspartame as their sweetener. This sweetener has absolutely no redeeming qualities. Spikes the BS for diabetics, contributes to carb cravings and is a known cancer causing agent. I get that they have a winning formula and any changes to the recipe (Coke tried that a number of years ago with disastrous results) would affect their fan base worldwide. But it adds nothing to your life. I love Coke and still drink it once in a while. 8 ounce can of the real thing then just move on.

Diet pop is the devil!! I don't understand how the aspartame or nutrasweet can raise blood sugar, but I know it sure does for me. Good job kicking that stuff to the curb!!

There is actually a fairly easy explanation for the elevation in BS with diet sodas. Just not a good thing any way you look at it. It had been hoped that once ALLULOSE hit the market the companies might finally make the switch. I often bake with SWERVE. it does not raise your blood sugar, no one can detect the difference and your final product comes out just like it would had you used real sugar. I am not diabetic myself but many of my friends suffer from diabesity so when I make treats for us I use the SWERVE Then I don’t feel like I’m contributing to this huge problem. Mitigates the damage a bit and makes ME feel better.

Great drop! I, too, have thing for Diet Coke but I drink it super seldom now. It's more of a "treat", a guilty pleasure. one 8 oz serving is enough. I used to drink 2-3 cans a day years ago.

Mountainman2— erythritol, a sugar alcohol, has been around since about 1990. I have never used sugar substitutes or diet products of any kind myself, but when many of my friends who have diabesity started having dire, life altering complicstions from their obesity and diabetes I decided to check into SWERVE and monkfruit as an alternative sugar source when I bake for the group. It works perfectly and no one can tell that there has been a switch. And it has a considerable impact on the carb count of a baked good. The way I look at it is that they are killing themselves anyway by their behaviors so a little SWERVE probably isn’t going to push them over the edge any faster and I, as their good friend, feel less guilty when I make things for all of us to enjoy. Does that make sense? If you are killing yourself with your food choices, what’s the odds that they are too concerned with the SWERVE.
