Diario de Debbie Cousins, 21 mar. 21

Most of you know that I entered a HealthyWage challenge back in December, betting on myself that I will lose 60 pounds in six months. I’m happy to report that the challenge has given me the motivation I needed to get back on track and to STAY on track every day.

For about a month I had found myself in the situation where no matter what I was doing, the weight was just not coming off very quickly, even though I was using tried and true methods that had worked very well for me in the past. As a direct result of this, and in answer to my prayers for a solution, God lead me to go on an extended fast to reset my metabolism and to break satan’s stronghold in my stomach.

I’m now on Day #9 of that process (I will probably go 14 days or 21 days – still open to God’s leading in that department), and I’m happy to report that things are going amazingly well! God spared me the caffeine-withdrawal headaches that often accompany fasting, even though I had a full 2-liters of Diet Coke the day before I started. I feel great and have had no hunger or weakness during the fasting period.

I’ve come up with a plan that is helping me to get a lot more exercise than I was getting previously. I’m on my 5th book about Fasting, and each time I get to a new chapter or subheading, I get up and do one item on the list I made of 5-minute jobs around the house. This is an answer to my prayer that I would become more active AND to my prayers that I would become a better housekeeper.

I have not posted anything about this up until now, because I know that people have a lot of different opinions about fasting, and a lot of people are just unknowledgeable about the benefits and safety of the process. I didn’t want to be discouraged by any of people’s negative comments (I still don’t), and I thought the best way to avoid that was to just not say what I was doing. A lot of people have messaged me privately expressing concern or asking what I was doing to lose the weight so quickly, and I’ve told messaged them privately.

But, after 9 days of silence, I really miss posting about my progress and connecting with my FS friends. I hope you will all be supportive of my INFORMED decision to continue my fast.

I know that as soon as I break the fast, I will immediately put back on up to 5 pounds in water weight and food in my digestive tract. I’m prepared for that. When the extended fast is over, I am going to be switching to OMAD twice a week, but I’m doing it in such a way that I will be getting in a 24-hour fast on those days (eating my last meal at 2pm on one day, and not eating again until 3pm the following day).

Thanks for all your love, care and support, and thanks for reading this lengthy post!

wow. awesome!! do whatever the lord leads. people gonna people. I've gone 14 days about 5 years ago because our apostle called a 21 day fast for decisions we needed to make for the church. but as a side benefit it did everything you mentioned. I had a severe addiction to sweets. Id eat untill I hurt. thankfully I only got to 200# before I desired a change. but God broke the sugar issues and it also reset my body. I've held under 165 since. just follow holy spirits leading and listen closely to your body.

Thank you SO much, @hebrews10:36. I prayed for a verse that would encourage me for after I go back to eating, and the Lord gave me I Corinthians 6:12 - "All things are permissible for me, but not all things are helpful. All things are permissible for me, but I will not be enslaved by anything." I plan to use that verse when faced with temptations. Thank you for your support!

Great verse. Another one I use as a declaration is ephesians 6:10. I am strong in the lord and the power of His might.

I'm with you 100% and am using more discipline myself, especially for my challenge. Last night was my 20th day without wine to help break my sugar addiction, and have only had 1 dessert since before Christmas. Go, Debbie, love the verses.

Look back at how much you've lost since Jan 1!! Whatever you're doing is working for you. I'll be you're feeling better in every way. Incredible!

So happy and grateful you found YOUR way. That's really what it's all about, finding/figuring out what's best for each of us individually. Is your husband also fasting? I find other people's experiences so interesting and educational. Even though I haven't the desire to do a long fast, your insight and thoughts are so helpful. I LOVE the scripture and will keep it in mind when my thoughts turn south...🥰

I don't know how to PM on this app but would sure like to know a little more about extended fasting.

Love the Bible verses folks...keep them coming. I was worried about you, but see you are in control(after God). Thanks for your post.

Also a great verse @hebrews1036. Thank you @kim sager, @LISfifty, @Sarah1950. My husband is not fasting, @Rckc, yohoyah. I'm still making him one nice meal a day. The Lord has helped me mightily not to be tempted - even with the filet mignon and loaded baked potato yesterday! @dineke, I tried to send you a PM, but it wouldn't go through. I'm going to "follow" you (you may need to accept request) and see if that works. Keep in touch. @larilyn, it's been 32.5 pounds since December 27th, Praise the Lord! @Snowwhite100, you're doing great! Congratulations on going without the wine - I know you enjoy that. Amazing that you've only had one dessert since before Christmas! I am still going to enjoy desserts on my "feasting" days (Wednesday & Sunday), when I switch to IF and OMAD.

I support your choice, Debbie. I have done OMAD successfully in the past, and have done eating every other day which was 36-40 hours fasts. Obesity Code is a great book by the way - I bet you have already read that one. Stay hydrated and keep your electrolytes up.

I think what you are doing is great. It is obviously working for you. What are some of the books that you have read. I am currently reading. Fast Feast Repeat

If this WOE gives you peace and solace, I am all for it. I know making your goal is very important to you. I know for me fasting just doesn't work. I will continue to keep you in my prayers.

@dineke33, can't PM on the app. You would have to visit the website (when it offers mobile app, scroll to bottom and select full site and sign in). As a matter of fact, many of us have completely ditched the app as it just lacks too much of the functionality.

I've had my share of fasts in this lifetime. I've been doing it since I can remember. It's always been part of my religion as a Roman Catholic. I stopped fasting in the early 2000's when my body went berserk, one day. I began shaking uncontrollably while I was driving in CA from AZ. I was going to visit one of my nephews and I had to pull over bc my bladder was full of liquid and I couldn't hold it in any longer. When I did find relief, it was almost blood-red. It was a deep-orange. I got scared, after my nephew came to lead me to his place from the gas station I was at bc I was also disoriented and confused. Angel, my nephew, and his GF (at that time) made tacos, ordered pizza and were feeding me everything they could get ahold of. I was fasting continually, back then, surviving on Rock Star drinks/sugar-free, protein shakes, bananas and salads. Not too many salads though. I didn't want to hurt my gut too much. I don't fast anymore bc of that Major ordeal I experienced over 20 years ago. I was fit though. I never want to go through a situation like that again. Take care, stay safe/healthy, and do whatever works best for you. Above all, be careful and monitor yourself and keep in touch w/your primary physician. God bless us all all ways...Amen

@Slow Meta, the only "complication" that I've had was on Day #5, when I had a hematologist appointment. They weren't able to get a vein. I also got slightly dizzy twice that day. Come to find out, it was a case of mild dehydration (even though I've been drinking a gallon of water a day). @deborahkerr and @HCB, the books I've read in the past 9 days are "Obesity Code, "Fast, Feast, Repeat," "Life in the Fasting Lane," "Fast this Way," and "The Power of Prayer and Fasting." @Prairie Rains and @Sarafinia, thanks for your support! I really appreciate all the positive vibes.

When people say they're fasting, it could be anything, I've learned here. When I think of fasting, my mind goes to Ghandi: no food, only water. Are you consuming any calories (water, black coffee and tea don't have any calories)?
