Good morning, Erq! I am sorry I didn't follow you from my new account before. FS didn't let me follow anyone for so many days in a row that I finally desisted. The kind of claustrophobic atmosphere that the book depicts existed for many years in the Basque Country. Your grandparents would have probably suffered a lot, should they have stayed there. The characters you mention are undoubtedly the most likable in the novel; the others reflect a reality that was there for a long time, whether we like it or not. I loved the very personal writing style; I hadn't read anything like that before. I'm glad you enjoyed reading it.

Justo estoy leyendo ahora “Patria” ! Me lo ha prestado una buena amiga nacida allí y que desde los 25 años vive en Bcn y dice que todo esto, tal cual lo vivió ella. Vivió en San Sebastián y el ambiente no era tan sofocante como en un pueblo pero aún y así en los barrios también señalaban. Tuvo que emigrar para encontrar trabajo y aquí tenía famíliares que pudieron ayudarla y acogerla 😄

Yo lo he vivido... soy niña de los 80, años muy dificiles. Con 8 años fui al entierro del Aita de mi amiga Isabel, era guardia civil y lo asesinaron enfrente de mi casa... Me acuerdo de ese dia como si fuera hace 2 horas y han pasado 31 años... Aun queda algún vestigio suelto pero nada que ver.
Me encanto el libro de patria y la serie y si, refleja lo que se vivio.
