Well, I went to the psychiatrist yesterday. My depression has been worse, as it has now been 4-1/2 months since my best friend went into a “residential treatment center” over 600 miles away. The psychiatrist is decreasing one anti-depressant by half for 3 days. Then, I’ll be eliminating that one and doubling another anti-depressant. The goal is to be more motivated and productive. I’m also cutting my sleep medication in half – also for the same outcome.

Yesterday, I did something I haven’t done in a LONG time – I made a To Do List for today! It was a very ambitious To Do List, too (at least for ME). It had 20 things on it. So far today, I’ve completed 14 of the items. I will probably complete three of the remaining six this afternoon (the 3 that do not involve leaving the house). I will be getting my little grandson at 5:30pm, and will have him here overnight. When I take him home in the morning, I can do the away-from-home jobs while I’m out.

I just went ahead and made a To Do List for tomorrow. It also has 20 things on it (so far). This may not seem like much to you folks who are ambitious, but it is monumental for me! For months, an “accomplished day” has been one where I loaded the dishwasher…period –no leaving the house, no cooking or cleaning, no shower.

I started a new supplement this morning – one of those “miracle drugs” that is supposed to make me lose weight. I’ve tried a bazillion of them, and none of them have ever worked! For this one, you just had to pay shipping, so there’s nothing really to lose. If it really DOES turn out to be a miracle, I’ll be sure to let y’all in on it! (Don’t hold your breath.)

Two hours before my 3-1/2-year-old "baby" arrives. Better get those other three jobs done before he arrives and makes 10 more clean-up jobs that have to be accomplished!

I have had my share of depression in life. Right now, I’m doing alright. I’m not on any medications right now. My issue is not wanting to leave my house. I injured my back, so it’s hard to get around these days. It takes me days to recuperate with my back, especially if I’m out shopping for an afternoon. I try to do at least one project every day. One project a day is an accomplishment for people who suffer with depression. Hang in there, you will get through this. Life is like a roller coaster. Good days and bad days.

Those long "To Do" lists sound monumental to me! Guess I'm not one of those motivated people. If I manage to go get the oil changed on the car, cook dinner, and wash the dishes I'm thrilled. Oh, and I usually do a little sewing on the side since everything has to be altered. My list is usually just 2 or 3 things long, and I may or may not get them done. You amaze me. By the way, I appreciated your comment to the other day "best of all!" Thank you, I needed that. Yesterday was particularly hard, and I never even went to bed. I did sleep 2 or 3 hours today. Now it's 2:15am so I'm going to bed. I pray for your health: body, soul, and spirit.

I'm proud of your progress. Psychotropic drugs can cause some bloat problems, I'm happy you're addressing them. I too battle depression and it's good too remember it's an illness not just a state of mind. Your to do list is ambitious, I would be less demanding. Think of it the same as you would weight loss...small goals each day then increase them. You will have a better sense of completion if you are able to completely check off 10 things done, than falling short of your 20. I'm here for you always and kiss that grandbaby on the head for me🙋

A 'to do list' is a great way to organize the day and a busy day is a great tool to feel better when depressed. Sending support!

I am proud of you for making a to do list. I am also in a space where loading the dishwasher is a giant achievement. I like to be very specific on my to do list, so I feel like I am making progress even if I don't finish it.

To me, your list is probably very ambitious. I don't know if I do 20 things in a week. As lo g as I do a few things in a day, I am ha ppy.. Enjoy your weekend and your time with the toddler.

Debbie, I hope the change in meds helps. Those "miracle diet drugs" usually aren't worth anything. Getting things accomplished always seemed to help me when depressed. Extra D and B complex vitamins have also helped. Reminds me I need to put more D's on my shopping list. I'm trying a done list instead with a to do guide in my head. I was getting overwhelmed with my huge to do lists as they always had more left on them than I had accomplished.

Debbie, Little things help, make your bed every morning, open the curtains every day, weather permitting open those windows and let air in. I had a Dr. tell me once to get a small (bathroom size) garbage can for the kitchen so I would have to go outside more often to empty it...it works. Someone else mentioned Vit. D, check with your Dr. to get your level checked, most people are extremely low and a supplement helps esp. in the winter.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind comments and suggestions. @raineybird and @wholefoodnut, I take 50,000 units of Vitamin D2 twice a week (because of malabsorption). Love your suggestion, @Jeudi, to put "make a list" on my To Do List.
