Well, day of reckoning! First day after stopping keto, scales went up by two pounds. Second day, lost 1/2 pound of that, so up 1-1/2. This morning, scales up another pound - 2-1/2 total pounds from last Keto weight. So, I'm back up to where I was on January 29th. All the losses from then have to be RE-LOST. Stop the madness!!!

Even though I only had 1,600 calories a day during these three days, it's just not working for me. Gonna record the gain and take it from there. Maybe by Monday I can get down from where I am (246.5) to where I WAS (244) and not have to record a gain for the week. Sigh.

I really thought the back-and-forth Keto/Calorie Counting would work. Apparently not. SO, looks like I'll be doing Keto for the long haul. Back to bacon & cheesy eggs for breakfast this morning. Thankfully, I bought some Filet Mignon at BJ's yesterday, so I'll be able to have a delicious dinner tonight, but MINUS the half of a loaded baked potato that I was going to have with it! That'll just allow me to enjoy the steak more (hear me trying to be positive with myself!)

Not beating myself up. I'm still learning this process. Maybe the key is: If something's not working, QUIT it and try something that DOES work.

Made Jackstraws again last night and had ONE (111 calories, which isn't bad if you're calorie counting). I'm going to indulge in ONE last one this morning (11.41 Net Carbs, which IS bad if you're counting carbs!) and then put them out of sight and out of mind. I'll give my husband a few for himself to hide from me, and I'll give away the rest.

The problem with keto back and forth is your cells deplete glycogen at the beginning so you lose, then when you eat carbs you deposit the glycogen back in so it looks like a gain and back and forth...When I switched from very low carb to moderate carbs I went slow to avoid the look of a gain. You're right, the key is finding what works for you!

I agree. Keto is an extreme diet. Moderation is way to go long term and frankly, healthier. Just my opinion.

What I’ve read is that it’s water weight. When I tried cutting carbs I lost some quickly but gained some right back when I stopped. Read online and asked a dr and was told water weight. It’ll come back unless you never have carbs again (keto for life). You have to decide if it’s a WOE you want to/can sustain forever. It wasn’t right for me so I accept that I’ll hold onto a few pounds of water (dr said it’s healthy for me) and adjusted my goal weight up 5#. Plus you won’t see the full effect of keto or coming off of it for awhile. I’m thinking I read a month but don’t quote me on that. My scale fluctuates a pound or two every day right now so I’m ignoring it lol.

Hi Debbie. I had be spending time trying to learn what the deal really is with the keto diet. For some reason I'm still not really understanding it. Also the IF that seem to be pretty hard to do too. I'm leaning toward what Chow Moore said. Peeperjj has a very interesting point. I'm thinking about what you have said. and wondered if maybe you should go back to doing what you were doing to drop the weight in January. Hang in there. We are going to get the job done.

It is water weight. Carbs cause the body to hold more fluid. It has to do with how the body stores sugars, or glycogen. "Carbohydrates are converted to glucose in your bloodstream, to fuel all of your basic metabolic functions and feed your brain. Some of that glucose is converted to glycogen, which can be stored in your muscles and your liver to be used immediately, according to the experts at Diabetes.co.uk. When your body stores glycogen, it does so by binding it to water molecules at a ratio of 1 gram of glycogen to 3 to 4 grams of water, as confirmed by a 2015 study published in the European Journal of Applied Physiology. Your body stores an average of 1 pound of glycogen at any given time, which means at least 3 pounds of water. This is normal. But, your body is capable of storing more glycogen than that, which means more water." [https://www.livestrong.com/article/309135-can-a-high-carb-diet-cause-you-to-retain-water/]

It's funny how much little changes can have such a huge impact on the scale! I'm doing a vegan month this month just for kicks, and I gained five pounds in the first two days, despite eating 1200 calories a day. All the fiber, all the water, and disrupting my gut microbiome so suddenly definitely played a role. It dropped consistently over the next few days (even on 1600 cal days), and I knew to expect it so it didn't concern me, but I was truly impressed that I managed to hit a 5 lb gain that way. 😂

First week of keto lose water wt. if off you quick get right back. Need 3-3 weeks to see a permanent drop. Just find one thing & stick with it. Can always add to plan. 🍀
